The Otsuka Awa Odori (dance festival) has been held annually in late August since its start in Minami Otsuka in 1971. More than 1,000 dancers participate every year, filling the community with excitement.
At the festival eve celebration on the day before the parade, there are ceremonies, and then each troupe demonstrates its Awa Odori dancing.
After the opening ceremony, the parade—which continues from around 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.—starts off with the Awa Odori dancing of each individual troupe. More than 10 dance troupes participate every year and the evening is exciting for dancers and spectators alike.
The Tourism Association also lends its support.
