areaA
The area from Nagasaki to Senkawa, Chihaya, Takamatsu, and Kanamecho consists of quiet residential neighborhoods. In the past, Nagasaki Village flourished, with Nagasaki Shrine—near today's Seibu Ikebukuro Line Shiinamachi Station—at the center of everyday life, and Nagasaki Village is lively today as well during the May Nagasaki Shrine festival, whose Nagasaki lion dance is among the folk arts that have been passed down. Vendors and visitors throng the grand festival.

What makes the area famous now is the existence of the "atelier village," where young painters, manga artists, and sculptors once worked diligently, and the history of the area as the place where a Japanese subculture began at Tokiwa-so in Minami Nagasaki.

From the old days, many artists and intellectuals resided in this area, which is a suburb of Tokyo.
